Nury Martinez is a politician from the United States who has been serving as a member of the Los Angeles City Council since 2013. She represents the 6th district of Los Angeles, which includes portions of the San Fernando Valley. Martinez was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and grew up in East Los Angeles. She began her political career working as a field representative for various elected officials before being elected to the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education in 2011. Martinez was appointed to the Los Angeles City Council in 2013 and was subsequently elected to a full term later that year. She has been re-elected twice since then. Martinez has focused her efforts on issues such as homelessness, public safety, and economic development.
